The AU summit has resolved through a vote that Morocco must re-join the AU. For us this complicates our COSATU-led campaign for the sovereignty of Western Sahara. But also this puts the AU in an awkward position going forward where the issue of diplomatic disputes between two of its members will prominently feature and most likely to divide the continental body than unite it. And for our own campaign, COSATU and the ANC which has bilateral relations with POLISARIO Front will have to give political direction how we proceed. Morocco is now a full member of the African Union , 39 of our 54 states approved the return of Morocco, even if the Western Sahara question remains. In the same summit Chad’s Foreign Minister, Moussa Faki, takes over from South Africa’s Dr Nkosazana Dlamini Zuma, who turned down a second term bid.
