Second Deputy General Secretary
Nomalanga Betty Mabokela
She was born in a small town called Mooidorpie, Itsoseng in the North West Province on the 08th June 1973. She did her Primary and completed her Matric [Grade 12] at Bophirima High School in Itsoseng and further obtained a Diploma in Business at the Tertiary level. She is currently pursuing studies in Human Resources Management.
Comrade Mabokela joined the South African Police Service [SAPS] in Delareyville in 2003 and immediately joined the ranks of the Police and Prisons Civil Rights Union – POPCRU. She became an active member where she advocated for the rights of employees in the department and her active involvement in the workers’ struggles led to her election in 2004 as the Deputy Institutional Secretary.
Her political career grew in leaps and bounds when she became an active member of COSATU, SACP and the ANC. Her continued pursuit for the plight of workers in the Criminal Justice landed her to a position of Ditsobotla Local Deputy Secretary in 2006 and subsequently elected to a position of Deputy Provincial Secretary in the North West Province. In 2011, she was elected North West Provincial Secretary where she took charge of the Provincial administration duties on a fulltime basis until in July 2016.
During the recently convened POPCRU’s Central Executive Committee meeting in Bredell, Kempton Park from the 15th – 17th July 2016 she was elected the 2nd Deputy General Secretary.
