The Police and Prisons Civil Rights Union (POPCRU) mourns the passing away of Isithwlandwe Ahmed Kathrada.
As one of the founding members of the Young Communist League of South Africa (YCLSA) at a tender age of 12, Ahmed Kathrada’ s activism and consciousness about the inequalities and injustices perpetrated by the brutal apartheid regime on non-whites and the need to fight for a non-racial, non-sexist and democratic society spans over decades.
It has been his lifelong dream, as espoused by the Ahmed Kathrada foundation which is focused on deepening non-racialism for the unity of all South Africans, to realise a society free of domination of one by another, and through his and many others’ efforts, we have now realised a democratic breakthrough as part of a continuous struggle for the full emancipation of our people.
We can best honour this revolutionary through our continued commitment to fight the curse of racism, unemployment, inequality and poverty.
Hamba kahle Uncle Kathy.
